Chief Medical Officer's Log, Lt. Elvi Pierce recording.
Detroyat's landing party had transported down to a small colony world to investigate reports of an unknown person shooting at the colonists and after a search encountered an individual calling himself Captain Ripper. When they questioned him, Captain Ripper insisted that he had come through some sort of now non-functional dimensional portal and been stranded there. They checked out his story to the best of their abilities with the Detroyat's computer and found that at approximately the time Ripper would have been born in our universe, there was a record of a baby with his name who had died shortly after birth. With that and other data they confirmed, they considered his story verified and decided to try to help him.
One thing they were able to tell with certainty was that tricorder scans of Captain Ripper showed he was malnourished. Plans were being made to bring the patient up to sickbay for treatment. I had instructed Nurse Vel to prepare a parenteral nutrient solution to administer immediately upon his arrival. Unfortunately, the situation on the planet became such that the landing party could not return with the patient so I was ordered to bring treatment down to him. I took a medikit and immediately proceeded to the transporter room where I was beamed down to join the landing party and Captain Ripper.
A quick scan of Captain Ripper showed the situation was far more grave than the initial reports led me to believe. He was suffering from severe malnutrition as well as dehydration – I immediately gave him a hypospray of concentrated vitamins and nutrients and a bottle of glucose infused water. Hardly the optimum treatment, but the best I could offer. As I went over the collected medical data I was surprised that Captain Ripper, who had the presence of mind to apologize for his scruffy appearance, was not more debilitated mentally and physically by his ordeal.
By his own accounting Captain Ripper had been stuck on this planet scavenging for meals for two years. Judging from his account and the scans, that he was not severely incapacitated both mentally and physically was a testament to his fortitude. As he drank the sugar water Captain Ripper wistfully longed for coffee. In what I thought was quite a magnanimous gesture, the CO ordered coffee beamed to our location for him.
The situation around us was quite tense – there was an angry mob of colonists trying to breach our location. I would have much preferred to get Captain Ripper back to the Detroyat's sickbay for treatment because a second set of scans showed that Captain Ripper's condition had not been significantly improved by the first injection given. I administered another hypo as the some members of the landing party, with the help of covering fire from one of our shuttlecraft, held the mob at bay. Other members of the group were hurriedly attempting to perform field repairs to the portal Captain Ripper had come though, with the intention of sending him back through it. As they continued to manage the situation, I continued to monitor Captain Ripper. The second injection combined with the caffeine from the coffee seemed to give him a boost of energy but I was not satisfied with the readings on my tricorder and administered a third hypo, this time combined with prophylactic inoprovoline to strengthen his immune system. Soon after the third hypo, the efforts of the landing party succeeded and portal was declared repaired as best as could be expected. With the tensions outside rising, once the portal became operational, Captain Ripper stepped through and presumably returned to his own dimension/time.
After further examining my scans of Captain Ripper it is my conclusion that he was fortunate our landing party was able to make contact and that he was provided with stabilizing nutrition and hydration. Remarkably, his foraging skills had been able to sustain him as long as they had , but much longer without a regular source for food and water and the deleterious effects of his ordeal would likely have caused permanent mental and physical impairment.
I sincerely hope that Captain Ripper made it “home” where he belongs and that he received the medical care there that he needed to return to full health.

CMO's Log, Dr. Elvi Pierce recording
After watching all those ships come and go at Utopia Planitia I was afraid I had built up my expectations unreasonably but assignment to the Detroyat is even more exciting than I ever imagined starship assignment to be! Not long after arriving I met and treated a time traveler...or dimension traveler – the concept itself is still difficult to grasp even with that temporal studies primer we had at the Academy. My patient had been born in our universe but had died soon after-- so he didn't have a counterpart to encounter but still – how extremely fantastic! Crew members got Captain Ripper's portal working and he went back “home”.
Even the normally mundane task of reviewing crew medical records is more interesting on the Detroyat! Our first officer, Lt. Moonshadows-to-Ennien is a member of the little-known felinoid species called Sivaoan. Just after discovering that I had a legitimate medical reason to examine her, I was called away from sickbay to accompany yet another landing party!
We are headed down to investigate a some strange energy readings from a planet in what is known as the Justinian Archipelago. Signs of a previous civilization are present but we've not detected any significant life forms. The background radiation on this planet is high and circumstances seem to point to a past nuclear cataclysm – perhaps why there are no inhabitants on this world. Lt. Moonshadows assures us that we can explore without any negative effects for up to five standard hours but nevertheless I will be monitoring our party closely for over-exposure to the residual rads and have stocked my field medikt with extra hyronoline in case of an unforeseen need.

Medical Log Supplemental, Dr. Elvi Pierce recording.
While exploring the Detroyat's Navigator/Tactical Officer discovered a bunker in which there was a web of pulsating crystals. Unfortunately, Lt. Kitona reached out and touched the array and seems to have suffered for her curiosity. She was rendered unconscious by the contact and so far I have been unable to revive her nor have I discerned a cause for her condition. Readings are showing the crystals are emanating a type of energy akin to psychic energy, perhaps this is the reason Ms. Kitona was drawn to them. I'd feel a lot better if she were in my Sickbay on a biobed being closely monitored until we know more of what's going on here but there is some dissension as to whether or not it is safe to remove the Lieutenant from proximity of the emanation. I am going request a transporter lock on myself and Ms. Kitona and if I detect any deterioration in her condition I will request immediate beam out.
