Chief Medical Officer's Log, Lt. Elvi Pierce recording.
Detroyat's landing party had transported down to a small colony world to investigate reports of an unknown person shooting at the colonists and after a search encountered an individual calling himself Captain Ripper. When they questioned him, Captain Ripper insisted that he had come through some sort of now non-functional dimensional portal and been stranded there. They checked out his story to the best of their abilities with the Detroyat's computer and found that at approximately the time Ripper would have been born in our universe, there was a record of a baby with his name who had died shortly after birth. With that and other data they confirmed, they considered his story verified and decided to try to help him.
One thing they were able to tell with certainty was that tricorder scans of Captain Ripper showed he was malnourished. Plans were being made to bring the patient up to sickbay for treatment. I had instructed Nurse Vel to prepare a parenteral nutrient solution to administer immediately upon his arrival. Unfortunately, the situation on the planet became such that the landing party could not return with the patient so I was ordered to bring treatment down to him. I took a medikit and immediately proceeded to the transporter room where I was beamed down to join the landing party and Captain Ripper.
A quick scan of Captain Ripper showed the situation was far more grave than the initial reports led me to believe. He was suffering from severe malnutrition as well as dehydration – I immediately gave him a hypospray of concentrated vitamins and nutrients and a bottle of glucose infused water. Hardly the optimum treatment, but the best I could offer. As I went over the collected medical data I was surprised that Captain Ripper, who had the presence of mind to apologize for his scruffy appearance, was not more debilitated mentally and physically by his ordeal.
By his own accounting Captain Ripper had been stuck on this planet scavenging for meals for two years. Judging from his account and the scans, that he was not severely incapacitated both mentally and physically was a testament to his fortitude. As he drank the sugar water Captain Ripper wistfully longed for coffee. In what I thought was quite a magnanimous gesture, the CO ordered coffee beamed to our location for him.
The situation around us was quite tense – there was an angry mob of colonists trying to breach our location. I would have much preferred to get Captain Ripper back to the Detroyat's sickbay for treatment because a second set of scans showed that Captain Ripper's condition had not been significantly improved by the first injection given. I administered another hypo as the some members of the landing party, with the help of covering fire from one of our shuttlecraft, held the mob at bay. Other members of the group were hurriedly attempting to perform field repairs to the portal Captain Ripper had come though, with the intention of sending him back through it. As they continued to manage the situation, I continued to monitor Captain Ripper. The second injection combined with the caffeine from the coffee seemed to give him a boost of energy but I was not satisfied with the readings on my tricorder and administered a third hypo, this time combined with prophylactic inoprovoline to strengthen his immune system. Soon after the third hypo, the efforts of the landing party succeeded and portal was declared repaired as best as could be expected. With the tensions outside rising, once the portal became operational, Captain Ripper stepped through and presumably returned to his own dimension/time.
After further examining my scans of Captain Ripper it is my conclusion that he was fortunate our landing party was able to make contact and that he was provided with stabilizing nutrition and hydration. Remarkably, his foraging skills had been able to sustain him as long as they had , but much longer without a regular source for food and water and the deleterious effects of his ordeal would likely have caused permanent mental and physical impairment.
I sincerely hope that Captain Ripper made it “home” where he belongs and that he received the medical care there that he needed to return to full health.

Doctor’s Log, Elvi Pierce recording.
It’s tragically sad that what could have been my first chance for a “First Contact” essentially ended one thousand years before we arrived when this world’s inhabitants apparently killed themselves in a planetary nuclear war……
As the clock ticked down on the limits of our exposure to the radiation in the planetary atmosphere, I continued to monitor Lt Kitona’s condition whilst she remained unconscious. There were indications of increased neural activity while she was non-responsive – the readings appeared almost as they would have if the lieutenant had been having a conversation or perhaps if she was dreaming quite vividly.
During this time other landing party members explored the surroundings and the remains of stasis chambers were found. From what could be discerned it looked as if the containers had been deliberately destroyed.
Lt. Moonshadows was surprised to find that Lt. Kitona had managed to use her tricorder to send her a text message – it was to look for the very same stasis chambers which had already been found. We learned that apparently the crystalline structure was storing Lt. Kitona’s conscious mind and the minds of some of the previous inhabitants of this world. Unfortunately, with no bodies to which to return, their lives were ultimately forfeit. They selflessly destroyed the crystal and released Lt. Kitona, who immediately regained consciousness.
The lieutenant seemed quite disturbed over the fact that these people were the last of their kind and sacrificed themselves to free her. Apparently they had made a request of her while she was with them that she locate and retrieve their planetary archives/cultural database so that the record of their people’s existence and what had happened to them would not be forgotten. Their records were located and it appears that Lt. Kitona has been able to find some closure for this unusual and poignant encounter. End Recording

CMO's Log, Dr. Elvi Pierce recording
Our abortive trip to Mitchell's Planet to retrieve some important scientific data aboard the Detroyat's shuttlecraft the Palomar was nothing short of harrowing and illustrates quite well why I prefer to travel via transporter!
The trip started off quite nicely. As we descended toward the planet we were treated to a spectacular sight -- flying near the shuttle were several dozen indigenous flying creatures that look like an airborne version of Earth's seagoing manta ray. Unfortunately, our opportunity to spectate the local wildlife was cut short when one of the sky-rays flew a bit too close, clipping the Palomar with it's wing. Our inertial dampeners and engines were knocked out by the impact and we were sent into a terrifying roll.
Lt. Danrea kept us from crashing right away and pulled us out of the roll but we returning to the atmosphere or landing safely wasn't looking promising. Captain Dallas kept calm and used his head to come up with a rather unlikely solution that he called a “Nantucket Sleighride”. Under his direction the Palomar's grappling hook was used to snare one of the larger sky-rays and quite amazingly the creature towed up and back into orbit!
Only Ensign Murphy, who sustained a slight bump on her head during the fray, was injured. Thanks to the skillful piloting of Lt. Danrea and the quick thinking of Captain Dallas everyone returned to the Detroyat shaken but fine.
